Donna L Morton de Souza, MPH, RD, LD/N graduated with a Masters in Public Health from Loma Linda University, California and received her undergraduate degree from California State University, Los Angeles. She also earned a culinary arts degree from Johnson and Wales University in Florida.

Donna first worked with dialysis patients in the late 1980’s in California. It was here that she realized the need for more innovative educational tools. After moving to Florida and pursuing other career opportunities (corporate dietitian for a cruise line, university instructor), she once again found herself working with dialysis patients. This time, she successfully developed a variety of tools to help educate and motivate her patients.

She was encouraged to publish her educational & motivational programs which resulted in the

"Handbook of Creative Approaches to Patient Compliance – a guide to assist renal dietitians working with dialysis patients".

Puzzles and games are popular educational tools among dialysis patients so she continued her efforts and published the "FUNdamentals of Learning, over 100 brainteasers to pass the time and help you learn about kidney disease." Other products include colorful, visual tearpads, posters, "shop & swap" games and nutrition bingo.

In 2002, Donna was the recipient of the National Kidney Foundation of Florida’s "Exemplary practice award for outstanding service to kidney patients".

She has been a speaker at several professional and patient conferences including the annual National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Clinical Meetings and the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP).
